To protect accounts related to the US presidential election, Twitter will require a strong password for these accounts. These users are also recommended to set up two-factor authentication. The microblogging service has announced this on its own website. In this way, Twitter wants to protect so-called “high-profile accounts” during the upcoming presidential elections. These include accounts of the US Congress, presidential campaigns, political parties, politicians, major US news organizations and political journalists. These accounts are all required to use a strong password. Accounts with weak passwords will need to set a stronger password the next time they log in. Password reset protection is also set by default for these accounts. This setting should prevent unauthorized password changes, where an account must confirm a password reset via email or phone. Twitter will also advise these accounts to enable two-factor authentication.
